Troy

For Honor

"I've fought many wars in my time. Some I've fought for land, some for power, some for glory. I suppose fighting for love makes more sense than all the rest."

The war started by love. Paris (Orlando Bloom), one of the King of Troy's sons, falls in love with a Greek Lord's wife. After Helen (Diane Kruger) travels back to Troy with Paris, the Lord (Brendan Gleeson) asks his powerful brother Agamemnon (Brian Cox) to lead the Greeks against the legendary walls of Troy. Despite having bad blood with Achilles (Brad Pitt), he is able to obtain his services through Achilles friend Odysseus (Sean Bean). The Greeks land on the beaches of Troy, and assault the never-before-breached walls of Troy. The defence of Troy is led by Paris' older brother, Hector (Eric Bana). Let the battle commence!

This reminds me of one of the finest qualities of The Lord of the Rings. The shear scale of the battles are spectacular, and accompanied with an original storyline from years ago, you'll have to be mad to miss this. One of the other great features of this film is that it presents the story from both sides of the conflict and you can understand both sides point of view. It is also quite funny to see Orlando Bloom less skilled in combat as we're used to seeing him in The Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean.

If you've bought a season/year ticket, then what have you got to lose? Even if you don't, £2 ain't exactly much to have a short trip to your union cinema. Though please note the early start time of the first showing.
