Canadian screenwriter, producer, and director Paul Edward Haggis moved to Los Angeles, California in 1975 to begin a career in the entertainment industry. Haggis began to work as a writer for several popular television programs, including: The Love Boat, One Day at a Time, Diff'rent Strokes, and the program that earned him his first credit as producer - The Facts of Life. Haggis gained recognition in the film industry for his work on the Academy Award winning film Million Dollar Baby (2004). Next, Haggis wrote and directed the Academy Award winning feature film Crash (2004) which received two Academy Awards; Best Motion Picture of the Year, and Best Writing, Original Screenplay, in addition to four other Academy Award nominations. This critically acclaimed film was his first experience as director of a major feature film. Due to his work on Million Dollar Baby and Crash Haggis became the first consecutive Best Picture Oscar-winner two years in a row. Haggis is married to Deborah Rennard, has 3 children and divides his time between his Los Angeles and New York residences.
