Sammy Going South

Incredible Adventure in a Land That Knows a Thousand Dangers!

We hope that the main actor Fergus McLealland will be able to talk to us about this classic drama from British director Alexander Mackendrick ('The Ladykillers'). The film hasn't been seen in cinemas since its original release in 1963. After an air raid in Port Said kills his parents, ten-year-old Sammy is left alone, penniless and vulnerable in colonial Africa but defiantly sets out to find his Aunt at the other end of the Continent. A film about a child but most resolutely for adults, 'Sammy Going South' is an undiscovered gem that has been carefully restored to best showcase the beauty of the African landscape as seen through a child's eyes.
