Galaxy Quest

The show has been cancelled...but the adventure is just beginning.

Did someone say 'cheesy'? This has to be easily the best film of the week; its witty, fairly intelligent, and boasts a host of stars making fun of themselves. What more do you want? We find our cast of distinguished actors spoofing their way through this affectionate homage/parody of sci-fi films in general, and more specifically the Star Trek phenomenon. Its not as puerile as other films of a similar vein, and it has a story of sorts: Tim Allen is the Will Shatner type, star of the popular sc-fi TV show 'Galaxy Quest'. Rickman, Weaver and co. are his co-stars as the crew of a very star trek-like space ship. Now, what if. a gang of aliens picked up the show from their distant planet, mistakenly took Allen and co. for the fearless crew of space warriors they play on-screen, and travelled to earth to ask them for help in a perilous battle? You guessed it. Wacky stuff huh? Well, it sets up some very enjoyable and quite funny stuff. The cast are without exception very good, the jokes keep coming and always with an element of intelligence.

Well, most of the time.
